Ronaldo ‘intent on leaving’ despite Tuesday’s talks with Man Utd

Cristiano Ronaldo remains ‘intent on leaving’ Manchester United after holding further talks with the club.

Ronaldo wants to leave in order to compete in the Champions League next season and has informed the Red Devils of his desire to move on this summer, with the club having been ‘sympathetic’ to his stance.

United allowed Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, to explore potential opportunities this summer, despite a desire to keep the 37-year-old at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag wants Ronaldo to remain a part of his squad this season with the forward having scored 24 goals in all competitions in 2021/22, following his return to the Premier League from Juventus.

The Times are reporting that United reaffirmed that stance during talks with Ronaldo on Tuesday, though the Portugal captain remains determined to leave for a Champions League club.

Options appear limited for Ronaldo, with the likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid having all distanced themselves from a move.

The forward wants to continue competing in the Champions League, where he holds records for most appearances, goals, and assists, while there are also ‘personal reasons’ for wanting to move his family from Manchester.

Ronaldo returned to training this week after being granted extended leave this summer, having missed the club’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.
