Chelsea agree personal terms with Cucurella

Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Marc Cucurella as the club continue talks with Brighton over a deal for the defender.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are in negotiations with Brighton over a fee for Cucurella, with the west Londoners confident of beating Manchester City to his signature.

City saw a bid rejected for Cucurella earlier in the window and have so far been reluctant to meet the Seagulls’ asking price for the Spaniard, who was named as the club’s Players’ Player of the Season and Player of the Season following an impressive debut campaign at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton are understood to value Cucurella in the region of £50m and, according to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea will attempt to agree a fee after reaching an agreement on personal terms with the player.

The full-back signed for Brighton in a £15.4m deal from Getafe last summer, having come through the academy ranks at Barcelona.

Cucurella impressed at both left wing-back and as a left-sided centre-back for Graham Potter’s side last season and would provide much-needed defensive depth at Stamford Bridge.

His arrival could pave the way for Malang Sarr to leave the club, with the 23-year-old interesting Fulham and clubs in Ligue 1.
