Chelsea interested in signing former Arsenal skipper Aubameyang

Chelsea are considering a move to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona as the club look to sign a forward before the transfer deadline.

Aubameyang has emerged as a potential target for the west Londoners in the final stages of the window, with the Blues having held initial discussions with the Gabon international over a return to the Premier League.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the club have held discussions with the player, though no bid has been submitted for the former Arsenal captain, but Aubameyang is on Chelsea’s list of potential targets alongside Red Bull Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko.

Aubameyang signed for Barcelona on a free transfer from Arsenal during the January transfer window and scored 13 goals in 23 appearances during an impressive six months at the Camp Nou.

However, the arrivals of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha have increased competition for places in the Barcelona squad and Aubameyang could be allowed to leave should a suitable offer arrive, as the Catalans look to reduce an inflated wage bill.

The 33-year-old previously worked under Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund. Aubameyang scored 79 goals across his two seasons under Tuchel’s management, including the winner as Dortmund won the 2017 DFB-Pokal.

Meanwhile, Sport are reporting that Aubameyang is open to a return to the Premier League, while they also been credit Chelsea with an interest in the forward’s teammate, Memphis Depay.

Depay is another name who is free to leave Barcelona this summer and is reportedly interesting a number of Premier League clubs and Juventus.
