Spurs in talks to sign Atletico’s Carrasco

Tottenham are in talks to sign Yannick Carrasco from Atletico Madrid before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Antonio Conte is a long-term admirer of the versatile Belgium international, who will increase the club’s depth in wide areas with Carrasco comfortable as a wing-back or winger on either flank.

The Telegraph are reporting that the north Londoners are in negotiations with Atletico over a deal for Carrasco, who was valued at around £25m by the Spanish side during previous talks between the clubs in January.

The 28-year-old has two years remaining on his contract in Madrid, having rejoined Atletico in 2020 for a second spell after spending two seasons with Chinese Super League team Dalian Professional.

Carrasco made 34 league appearances for Atletico last season, in which he scored six goals and laid on a further six assists. While regarded as an important figure at the Wanda Metropolitano, Atletico are under pressure to sell to ensure the club meet La Liga’s financial regulations.

The Belgian could become Spurs’ eighth signing of the summer, following deals for Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Destiny Udogie, Djed Spence, Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Clément Lenglet.
