Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on the fitness of Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Leeds.
Thiago has missed the past two fixtures after picking up an ear infection that required hospital treatment, while Henderson limped off in the closing stages of Liverpool’s 3-0 win at Ajax on Wednesday night.
Klopp said that Henderson will be assessed ahead of Leeds’ visit to Anfield on Saturday evening, but confirmed that Thiago is fit to return to the squad.
“With [Jordan] Hendo we have to wait. It was a knock. He was stiff yesterday. I hope he’ll be okay. Thiago is back,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference.
Liverpool suffered a setback after a shock loss at Nottingham Forest last weekend, with the Reds beaten 1-0 at the division’s bottom side. The loss left Liverpool eighth in the table, 12 points behind leaders Arsenal and five outside the top four.
Klopp’s side have been inconsistent in the Premier League this season and the German has called on his team to build a foundation before the season’s pause for the World Cup.
“Our situation is clear you can see it in different ways. Around the Nottingham we had quite a few positives. A lot of things can happen overnight.
“I don’t think you should only win games when you are only outstanding.
“It’s a tough few games until the World Cup break and we have to create a basis for the return too.”
