Potter admits Chelsea job ‘too good to turn down’ ahead of Brighton return

Graham Potter admits the Chelsea job was ‘too good to turn down’ ahead of his first return to Brighton this weekend.

Potter has made an impressive start at Chelsea and remains unbeaten in nine fixtures across all competitions, having made the decision to take the head coach role in west London last month.

The 47-year-old won admirers for his work at Brighton, who he led to a best ever Premier League finish of ninth in 2021/22. The Seagulls are without a win in five games since his exit, ahead of Potter’s first return to the Amex Stadium.

Ahead of the clash, Potter discussed his decision to leave for Chelsea and admits the opportunity to replace Thomas Tuchel was one impossible to ignore.

He accepts the timing of his exit was not ideal just weeks into the new Premier League campaign and admits he is unsure of the reception he will receive.

“Sometimes life throws you opportunity and you have to take them or not,” Potter told his pre-match press conference.

“Timing wasn’t great for anybody and sometimes that happens.

“The decision to work here was too good to turn down.

“I don’t have expectations of the crowd, most people I’ve spoken to from Brighton have been supportive but I’m not naive, that’s not universal.”
