Man Utd make Bellingham number one midfield target

Manchester United have made Jude Bellingham their number-one transfer target for the summer window as the Red Devils revive their interest in the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.

United made an approach to sign Bellingham in 2020, with the then-Birmingham City teenager holding talks with Sir Alex Ferguson and given a tour of the club’s training facilities.

Bellingham turned down the interest to sign for Dortmund, where he has since established himself as one of the most exciting talents in world football.

The 19-year-old has made more than a century of appearances for the Bundesliga side and has captained the club on occasion this season, while he is a prominent part of the senior England side with 17 caps for the Three Lions.

United spent vast periods of last summer chasing Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, though the Mirror are reporting that United have now turned their attentions to signing Bellingham next summer, with the club set to compete with Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid for his signature.

Erik ten Hag has held talks with football director John Murtough over summer targets and Bellingham – who is valued in excess of £100m – has been placed at the top of the list.

United invested a club-record of around £220m on new additions during the summer, with Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Antony the marquee additions.

Ten Hag has been promised further funds as he rebuilds the Red Devils, though qualification to the Champions League will be required if the club are to entice Bellingham.
