West Ham manager David Moyes says he is ‘disappointed’ to see former side Everton ‘a bit broken’ at the moment.
Everton are in the Premier League’s relegation places after a run of eight league games without a win and decided to sack Frank Lampard this week after a 2-0 defeat to Moyes’ West Ham last weekend.
The Toffees have been in discussions over a new manager this week and are expected to name former Burnley boss Sean Dyche as Lampard’s replacement.
Lampard’s exit continued a turbulent recent history at Everton, who are set to name their seventh permanent manager since Farhad Moshiri’s takeover of the club in February 2016.
Everton are 19th in the Premier League table and face a fight to prevent relegation from the top tier of English football for the first time since the 1950s.
Moyes has discussed the situation at Goodion Park, where he spent 11 years as manager between 2002 and 2013, and admitted his sadness to see his old side a bit ‘broken’.
“I was really disappointed [to see Lampard get sacked], but we’ve got to a situation where the games have got really tight for us all,” Moyes said at his pre-match press conference ahead of West Ham’s FA Cup clash with Derby.
“You can see the competition at the bottom end of the Premier League and how difficult it is to get victories. We narrowly lost the week before to Wolves, 1-0, and thankfully we got a decent victory against Everton last week.
“It’s not for me to talk about Frank Lampard or Sean Dyche as I know them both well. I know Dychey really well, he’s got a great record.
“If you are asking me about Everton, Everton is a brilliant club.
“I’m disappointed to see them broken a bit at the moment but it’s a great club moving into a new stadium and I’m sure they’ll get back to it in the future.
“It’s a great club.”
