Conor Gallagher ‘won’t be allowed’ to join top four rival

Chelsea will not allow Conor Gallagher to leave the club on loan for a top four rival ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Gallagher has been linked with an exit from west London and a host of Premier League clubs are interested in a deal to sign the England international.

Manchester United and Newcastle have been credited with an interest in the 22-year-old as the duo look for midfield additions before the 11pm deadline, but the Daily Mail are reporting that Gallagher will not be allowed to leave for a direct rival in the race for Champions League football.

Everton submitted an offer worth up to £45m for Gallagher on Monday, but the midfielder is not interested in a permanent move to Goodison Park with the club mired in the Premier League’s bottom three.

Chelsea’s stance on the academy graduate’s future could open the door for Crystal Palace to re-sign Gallagher.

The Eagles remain interested in a deal after Gallagher starred on loan at the club last season, winning their Player of the Year accolade.

Gallagher scored eight league goals as Palace secured a mid-table finish under Patrick Vieira and could be open to a return to Selhurst Park.

He has started just nine league games this season and the potential arrival of Enzo Fernandez from Benfica could add increased competition for a place in Graham Potter’s side.
