Manchester United’s Eriksen ruled out until late April

Christian Eriksen has been ruled out until late April after picking up an ankle injury during Manchester United’s FA Cup win over Reading.

Eriksen was substituted during the second half of the Red Devils’ 3-1 win at Old Trafford after a poor challenge from Reading forward Andy Carroll, who was later sent off for two bookable offences.

The Denmark international was pictured leaving the ground on crutches following the incident and United have now confirmed that the midfielder is facing a significant spell on the sidelines.

Erik ten Hag has said that Eriksen is expected to be out until late April or early May. It will come as a major blow to Dutch manager, with the summer signing having been an impressive performer since his free transfer arrival from Brentford.

Eriksen leads his teammates for assists, crosses and passes into the final third this season, while he ranks second for ball recoveries, chances created and passes into the opposition box.

United face Nottingham Forest in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday, with the Red Devils leading 3-0 from the first leg at the City Ground. The Red Devils also face a huge Europa League clash with Barcelona next month.
