Premier League big boys on ‘alert’ as PSG consider selling Neymar

The Premier League’s top sides are monitoring Neymar’s situation at PSG with the French club considering offloading the most expensive footballer in history.

The 31-year-old Brazilian moved to the Parc des Prince from Barcelona in a world-record €222 million deal in the summer of 2017. Despite winning Ligue 1 on four occasions success in the Champions League has eluded the Qatari-owned club and Neymar has a fractious relationship with PSG’s fans.

The 124-cap Brazil international is also thought to enjoy a less than ideal working relationship with fellow superstar Kylian Mbappe and PSG Sporting Director Luis Campos. Against this backdrop 90mins are reporting that PSG have informed several Premier League clubs that they are open to allowing the hugely talented attacker depart for pastures new during the summer transfer window.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly reportedly held a meeting with the PSG hierarchy this week during which the Stamford Bridge outfit where informed of the situation. The Blues’ former coach Thomas Tuchel was keen on reuniting with Neymar this summer after they worked together at PSG, but Chelsea ultimately decided not to pursue a deal.

One major stumbling block to any transfer that will see Neymar end up strutting his stuff in the Premier League is his £40 million per year salary and whatever transfer fee PSG charges. Realistically, the finances involved would mean that Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea would be the only clubs with the financial resources to complete a deal.

Although if Neymar fancies a spell in the north of England, Newcastle United’s Suadi owners may be tempted to flex their considerable financial muscles.
