Arteta insists he knows the ‘level’ Arsenal need to reach to win the Premier League

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has insisted that he is perfectly aware of the kind the level of performance the Gunners need to produce if they are to win this season’s Premier League title.

The Gunners development this season under their Spanish coach has been remarkable, with the north London outfit collecting a hugely impressive 50 points from their opening 19 Premier League games.

However, Arsenal’s form has wobbled in recent weeks, taking just one point from their last three games, and their 3-1 home defeat to reigning champions Manchester City saw Pep Guardiola’s side ominously regain top spot in the table on goal difference.

The Gunners face Aston Villa away tomorrow in Saturday’s early kick-off and Arteta has revealed that he and his team are ‘highly motivated’ to get back to their best form.

“I know the right things we have to do to continue to be there [at the top],” Arteta told his pre-match press conference.

“We have seen where the level is and what we have to do to be at that level.

“There are a lot of positive things to take, for sure, from the season so far [and Wednesday night’s defeat at home to Manchester City].

“We know that the level of efficiency has to be good with every single game to beat them [City] at the end.

“We are highly motivated to do that.”

Arteta also insisted that after analysing Wednesday’s game he feels it was more a case of his side losing the game than being so much better and winning it.

“You have to give credit to a team when they beat you, but when you analyse the game again, I think we lost it.”
