Man United ‘preferred choice’ for Kane this summer

Manchester United are the preferred choice for Harry Kane this summer as the forward considers pushing for a Tottenham exit.

Kane’s future is set to dominate the headlines this summer with the forward facing a decision on whether to leave Spurs in search of elusive silverware.

The 29-year-old has failed to win a major trophy during his career to date and will enter the final 12 months of his contract in north London at the end of the season.

Manchester United are understood to have made Kane their number one priority for the transfer window, as Erik ten Hag looks to bring in a centre-forward capable of turning his team into title challengers.

The Daily Star are reporting that the Red Devils’ board have sanctioned the club’s pursuit of Kane and the club will begin negotiations with Spurs over an £80m deal. Kane will turn 30 in July and acknowledges that time is running out to win major team honours.

Kane became Spurs’ all-time record goalscorer last month, before breaking Wayne Rooney’s record to become England’s leading scorer against Italy last week. He is also closing in on Alan Shearer’s Premier League record, but remains without team success despite his individual accolades.

Spurs appear no closer to ending a 15-year wait for a trophy and will begin another rebuild following the departure of Antonio Conte. The club are in the process of appointing a new head coach for next season and have compiled a shortlist of candidates that includes Julian Nagelsmann.

It is understood that Kane will ‘push’ for an exit at the end of the season regardless of who is appointed as Conte’s successor and a move to Old Trafford is his preferred choice, despite rival interest from Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
