Ten Hag insists he has ‘no concerns’ over Man United form

Erik ten Hag insists he has no concerns over Manchester United’s recent form despite three games without a win in the Premier League.

United’s top four hopes suffered a blow after a 2-0 defeat at Newcastle on Sunday, a result which has seen the Red Devils fall out of the Champions League places.

Since winning the Carabao Cup in February, United have gone three Premier League games without a win and have failed to score in that time. Despite that run, Ten Hag insists he is not concerned with the club’s recent form as the Red Devils prepare to face Brentford at Old Trafford.

“We played 60 minutes against Southampton with ten men, we beat Fulham (FA Cup),” Ten Hag told his pre-match press conference. “We beat Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, so no concerns.”

Ten Hag was critical of his team following the club’s defeat to Newcastle, a result which extended a poor record away from home at the Premier League’s top teams. United have lost all six of their away fixtures against teams currently in the top nine, conceding 25 goals in the process.

“We had a very bad performance because the opponent wanted it more than us. They were sharper. You can see that in the challenges, we won only 16 from 61 challenges in offence and in defence the opponent beats us 48 from 78 challenges. Then you can’t win a game.”

Ten Hag confirmed that Christian Eriksen has returned to training following his ankle issue, but the clash with former side Brentford will come too soon for the Denmark international.

“Not for tomorrow but he’s returning on the pitch,” Ten Hag said on Eriksen.

“He’s returning into team training today, so we have to see now how quickly he can make the progress.”
