Liverpool have reportedly ‘stepped up’ their interest in signing Ryan Gravenberch after pulling out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham.
Liverpool’s decision to end their interest in signing Bellingham has been a story that has dominated the headlines this week, with the Merseyside club unable to compete financially with Borussia Dortmund having set an asking price of over £100 million.
The Reds have endured a season of struggle this term, currently languishing in eighth in the Premier League, 12 points off the top four places with just nine games remaining. Much of the club’s struggle has been put down to issues with their midfield, and having pulled out of the race to sign Bellingham, attentions have understandably turned to who they will target as an alternative.
According to the Times, Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch is high on that list of alternatives, with Liverpool having sent representatives to the Netherlands this week for talks with his father, Ryan Senior.
Gravenberch – who can operate in a number of midfield roles – emerged as a top talent during his time at Ajax under now Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag, and made the move to Bayern Munich for £21 million last summer.
He has, however, struggled to break into the Bavarian side, making just four starts in all competitions for the Bundesliga champions.
The report says that Gravenberch was already a target for the Anfield outfit before they pulled out of the Bellingham chase, and could be available for around £25 million.
Manchester United and Arsenal have also been linked with the 20-year-old.
