Klopp calls Spurs ‘best counter-attacking side in Europe’

Jurgen Klopp has warned Liverpool not to underestimate an out-of-form Tottenham this weekend and has called the north Londoners the ‘best counter-attacking side in Europe’.

Liverpool host Spurs in the Premier League this weekend as both sides look to hang on to fading hopes of securing a top four finish and Champions League qualification.

The Reds have won three consecutive Premier League games for just the second time this season, ahead of a clash with a Spurs team who have endured a difficult recent run.

Spurs have won just once in their last six league games and sacked interim manager Cristian Stellini this week, with Ryan Mason placed in charge until the end of the campaign. Mason oversaw his first game in charge on Thursday night, as Spurs fought back from two goals down to draw with Manchester United.

Klopp was asked for his view on Spurs’ challenging season and admits that the problems for several top teams, including Liverpool, have opened up the race for Champions League football. The German insists he is preparing to face an ‘outstanding’ team this weekend however, and called Spurs the ‘best counter-attacking side in Europe’.

“This is a season where a lot of things are difficult for a lot of teams,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference.

“We have our problems, Chelsea have problems, Tottenham have problems. It is not cool for us but opens it up for other teams and Champions League spots are there to grab for other teams.

“Little mistakes can cause massive problems. I don’t know anything about that for Tottenham, but they showed they are outstanding last night. I will be prepared for the best possible Tottenham side. They are the best counter-attacking side in Europe by some distance.”
