AC Milan are set to beat competition from clubs across Europe to the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Daichi Kamada.
Kamada is set to become a free agent when his contract expires this summer and had been linked with Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and several Premier League clubs.
The Japan international formed part of the Eintracht Frankfurt team that won the Europa League in 2021/22 and has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season, including a goal against Tottenham in the Champions League’s group stage.
English clubs are set to be disappointed in their pursuit of the 26-year-old however, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that AC Milan are close to a deal. Milan have verbally agreed a long-term contract with Kamada that will run until 2028 and a medical has been scheduled for next week.
The deal for Kamada will be a major boost to Milan, who have secured Champions League qualification for next season after reaching the competition’s semi-finals under Stefano Pioli this season.
The versatile star will replace Brahim Diaz at the San Siro, who is set to return to Real Madrid after three seasons on loan in Italy. Real Madrid are yet to make a decision on Diaz’s future, but he could replace Marco Asensio in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans with the latter set to leave on a free transfer.
