Real Madrid consider free agent Roberto Firmino

Real Madrid are considering a move to sign Roberto Firmino this summer, with the forward available on a free transfer after confirmation that he will be leaving Liverpool.

Firmino will become a free agent when his contract at Liverpool expires and the forward is currently assessing his options as he looks for a new challenge.

The Brazil international scored 13 goals in all competitions for Liverpool during the 2022/23 season and scored during the Reds’ 4-4 draw at Southampton on the Premier League’s final day.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Firmino is on Real Madrid’s shortlist of options at centre-forward, as the Spanish side look to add support for Karim Benzema at the Bernabeu. No negotiations have began between Firmino’s representatives and the club, but the forward is one of four or five names under consideration.

Firmino scored 111 goals in 362 appearances for Liverpool across eight seasons with the club and was a prominent part of the Reds’ success under Jurgen Klopp.

His role has reduced across the past two seasons as Liverpool have looked to rebuild their forward line and he has decided to move on. The forward has been an effective option when called upon this season however, and has averaged a goal or assist every 81 minutes in the Premier League.
