Chelsea confirm Mauricio Pochettino appointment

Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as the club’s new head coach.

Pochettino has signed a two-year contract with the option of a further season and returns to management having left his role at Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

The Argentine has a wealth of Premier League experience after spells at Southampton and Tottenham, with the 51-year-old having led the latter to four consecutive top-four finishes in the Premier League and to the 2019 Champions League final.

Chelsea have confirmed Pochettino’s appointment on the club’s official website and co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, have released a statement praising Pochettino as the ‘exceptional candidate’ to take Chelsea forward.

“Mauricio’s experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward,” the statement said.

“He is a winning coach, who has worked at the highest levels, in multiple leagues and languages. His ethos, tactical approach and commitment to development all made him the exceptional candidate.”

Pochettino will be joined at Stamford Bridge by his backroom staff who include Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and Sebastiano Pochettino.
