Arsenal have been left ‘shocked’ by the demands of William Saliba’s representatives as the club struggle to agree a new deal with the defender.
Saliba’s current contract has just over a year to run and Arsenal are in negotiations over an extension for the centre-back, who shone after being integrated into the side under Mikel Arteta last season.
The 22-year-old made 27 league appearances for Arsenal as the club secured Champions League qualification for the first time since 2016/17, having returned from an impressive loan spell at Marseille.
According to The Sun, Arsenal have offered Saliba a new deal that will triple his current wage to around £120,000-a-week, but have been left ‘shocked’ by the demands of the player’s representatives and are currently ‘nowhere near’ to reaching an agreement.
Paris Saint-Germain are monitoring the situation closely and have an interest in signing Saliba, who has won eight caps for France since making his senior debut in 2022.
Arsenal fear that PSG will offer a significantly higher proposal to lure the defender to the Parc des Princes and the Ligue 1 champions will be able to approach Saliba on a pre-contract agreement in January, if a new deal is not agreed.
