Firmino agrees Saudi switch following Liverpool exit

Roberto Firmino is closing in on a transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli after leaving Liverpool.

Firmino departed Liverpool as a free agent at the end of last season after eight successful seasons in the Premier League and is closing in on becoming the latest high-profile addition to The Saudi Pro League.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Firmino has reached a full verbal agreement with Al Ahli over a move to the division, with the Brazil international set to undergo a medical before signing a three-year deal.

Firmino will link up with former Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy at Al Ahli after the Senegal international completed a move to the side earlier this week.

The new arrivals continue a remarkable recruitment drive from The Saudi Pro League, after the country’s sovereign wealth fund (PIF) took control of the four largest teams in the division – Al Nassr, Al Hilal, Al Ittihad, and Al Ahli – in a bid increase the league’s profile and bring in overseas talent.

Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante and Kalidou Koulibaly and Wolves’ Ruben Neves are among the other names to have departed the Premier League for Saudi Arabia this summer.
