Al-Ittihad to make £40m bid to sign Fabinho from Liverpool

Al-Ittihad are set to make a £40m bid to sign Fabinho, though Liverpool are reluctant to let the midfielder leave without a replacement.

The Saudi Pro League side are preparing a sizeable offer to sign the Brazil international, who could join former Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante and ex-Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema at Al-Ittihad if a deal is agreed.

Fabinho has been a key figure for Liverpool since joining the club from Monaco five years ago, but his form was criticised during a disappointing 2022/23 campaign.

According to The Athletic, a decision is expected quickly on Fabinho’s future, though Liverpool want to ensure a replacement is secured before sanctioning the 29-year-old’s departure.

The Reds have been linked with Southampton midfield Romeo Lavia, who is valued at around £50m, while the club have also considered Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Manu Kone as a number six. Liverpool had also been interested in Khéphren Thuram of Nice, though the 22-year-old is viewed as a more advanced midfielder.

Fabinho’s potential exit could continue a midfield overhaul at Liverpool this summer, with Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain having departed on free transfers.

Fabio Carvalho has been allowed to join RB Leipzig on loan, while Jordan Henderson is also weighing up a proposal from The Saudi Pro League.
