Jude Bellingham has admitted that interest from Real Madrid gave him ‘goosebumps’ before he completed his transfer to the club this summer.
Bellingham turned down interest from the Premier League to sign for Real Madrid in a deal which could reach £115m including add-ons, with the 20-year-old having emerged as one of Europe’s most coveted young talents after three successful seasons at Borussia Dortmund.
The England international was named as the Bundesliga’s Player of the Season in 2022/23 and made an immediate impression at Real Madrid with a goal on his debut, as the Spaniards opened their La Liga campaign with a 2-0 win at Athletic Bilbao.
Bellingham has become the sixth Englishman to represent Los Blancos and follows in the footsteps of names including David Beckham and Michael Owen.
The midfielder has opened up on his decision to sign for Real Madrid and admits hearing of the transfer interest from the record 14-time European champions gave him goosebumps.
“It was a bit of a surprise when my dad sat me down and said: ‘You’ve had a bit of interest from Real Madrid’,” Bellingham said, as per the BBC.
“I had goosebumps, my heart was close to stopping. It’s something you don’t expect growing up – being able to play for a team like this.”
