Manchester United ‘exploring move’ for Benfica’s Vlachodimos

Manchester United exploring a move to sign Benfica goalkeeper Odisseas Vlachodimos, who is expected to leave the Portuguese champions this summer.

Erik ten Hag wants to bring in a new goalkeeper amid Dean Henderson’s expected exit from Manchester United this summer, with the England goalkeeper linked with moves to Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace as he seeks a first-team role.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Vlachodimos is top of the club’s wish-list to replace Henderson and provide competition and cover for Andre Onana at Old Trafford.

United have already seen David de Gea depart on a free transfer this summer and the sale of Henderson would increase the need for additional options in goal.

Vlachodimos has won two league titles at Benfica and made 54 appearances in all competitions for the Lisbon side last season, but the 29-year-old is expected to leave this summer after the signing of Anatoliy Trubin from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Vlachodimos previously had spells at Stuttgart and Panathinaikos before his move to Benfica and represented Germany at youth level, having been born and raised in Stuttgart, before swapping his international allegiance to Greece. He has since won 33 caps for the national team.
