Arsenal left-back Tierney set for Sociedad loan

Real Sociedad have reached a verbal agreement with Arsenal to sign Kieran Tierney on loan for the campaign.

Sociedad have agreed a deal with Arsenal to sign the 26-year-old on loan and a medical has been scheduled with Tierney having accepted the move to La Liga.

Tierney had been keen to leave Arsenal in search of a regular role after losing his place in the side last season, with the Scotland international having made just six Premier League starts following the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the deal does not include an option to make the move permanent, but Arsenal are willing to allow Tierney to depart on a temporary basis in search of regular minutes.

Real Sociedad – who finished fourth in Spain last season to secure Champions League qualification – will cover Tierney’s wages during the duration of his loan spell in San Sebastián.

Newcastle had been credited with long-term interest in signing the left-back, but instead turned their focus to Chelsea’s Lewis Hall, securing the teenager on loan with an obligation to buy for a fee worth up to £35m.
