Nottingham Forest close to winning race for Chelsea winger

Nottingham Forest are close to winning the race to sign out-of-favour Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Hudson-Odoi is free to leave Chelsea after returning from an underwhelming loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen last season, with the 22-year-old having struggled to build on his promising early emergence from the Blues’ academy.

Several Premier League clubs had registered interest in signing Hudson-Odoi, with Fulham among those keen on a deal, but Nottingham Forest are now close to reaching an agreement.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that negotiations between Forest and Chelsea are moving into the ‘final stages’ and an announcement could be made imminently.

Steve Cooper is keen to reunite with Hudson-Odoi at the City Ground, having coached the winger during his time in charge of England’s youth sides.

Hudson-Odoi featured as part of the England side that won the FIFA u-17 World Cup under Cooper in 2017 and could link up with team-mates from that squad in Morgan Gibbs-White and Jonathan Panzo at Forest.

Forest remain keen to bring in additions before the deadline and have also approached Leicester over the signing of Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi.
