Pochettino says Palmer ‘fit for the project’ at Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino believes Cole Palmer is an ideal fit for the project at Chelsea after completing a £42.5m deal to sign the forward from Manchester City.

Chelsea have completed a deal to sign the England u-21 international from the Premier League champions, with Palmer signing a long-term deal in west London to add to Pochettino’s attacking options.

The Argentine discussed the deadline day arrival ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Nottingham Forest this weekend and believes Palmer is a player with ‘great potential’.

“He is fit for the project, a young talented player and he decided to come as he maybe expected to play a bit more,” Pochettino told his pre-match press conference.

“That is not the most important thing, we see a project for him to improve his game and be more involved in every single game. The quality is there. He has great potential.

“We are not going to put pressure on him to perform, the most important thing for any player is to be calm and happy.”

Asked if Palmer is Chelsea’s last signing of the transfer window, he added: “I think so. If something is going on, I don’t know. I last spoke to the sporting directors two hours ago. We are happy with the squad.”
