Ange Postecoglou has discussed his rebuild at Spurs and the importance of bringing in homegrown additions to his squad.
Spurs have been active in the transfer market with eight new additions brought in so far, with summer arrivals James Maddison and Micky van de Ven having impressed during the season’s opening weeks.
The north Londoners remain keen to do more business before the deadline and have agreed a £47.5m fee with Nottingham Forest for Brennan Johnson, an arrival that will fit the club’s criteria of finding both emerging and homegrown talent.
Postecoglou has discussed the importance of planning for the future, with the 22-year-old Johnson a player who can be a long-term part of the project at Spurs.
“It’s not just about this window but where you will find yourself in the next couple of windows,” the Australian said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Burnley this weekend.
“There has to be a strategy behind it. You’ve got some U21 players who in the next couple of years will not be able to fit under that criteria.
“I’m really keen on building a team here so we don’t want to see as much movement as there has been in this window in the next two or three.
“To do that we’re trying to build a squad that isn’t going to require too many many adjustments and part of that is knowing that we need a homegrown quota so we can fill that in, whether that’s with players coming from the academy or within the league. I think that is important.”
