Postecoglou insists Spurs will ‘help’ struggling Richarlison

Ange Postecoglou has said Spurs will ‘help’ Richarlison after the forward said he will seek psychological support on his return from the international break.

Richarlison was pictured in tears after being substituted during Brazil’s 5-1 win over Bolivia at the weekend, with the forward having since revealed that he will seek help to ‘strengthen my mind’ after a difficult period on and off the pitch.

The 26-year-old – who recently split from his agent – told Brazilian newspaper O Globo that he had been through a ‘turbulent time off the pitch’ in recent months and was keen to seek additional help.

Richarlison has failed to make an impact at Spurs since signing from Everton in 2021 and has scored just once in 31 league appearances.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s fixture with Sheffield United, Postecoglou said the north Londoners are prepared to aid Richarlison with whatever help he needs.

“Whatever Richy needs, we will help him get to the space he wants to get to,” the Australian told his pre-match press conference.

“He put it out there because he was quite emotional after the game and we will give him support he needs, but we do for all players.

“What I will say is no one has a perfect life. People think footballers do things well and have all the money they need but it does not make them immune from life.”
