Erik ten Hag has discussed his determination to implement good standards at Manchester United, following the manager’s fallout with Jadon Sancho.
Sancho is training away from the first-team squad after hitting back at Ten Hag last week, after the manager had revealed the winger was dropped from the squad to face Arsenal for underperformance in training.
Sancho branded Ten Hag’s comments ‘completely untrue’ and claimed he had been made a ‘scapegoat’, with the 23-year-old currently away from the first-team group as the Red Devils consider disciplinary action.
Ten Hag was questioned on his strict approach ahead of this weekend’s clash against Brighton and said his role is to set standards and ensure the team comes first.
“Strict lines is what the club asked me (to bring in) because there was no good culture before last season so (my job was) to set good standards. That is what I did and it is my job to control the standards,” he told his pre-match press conference.
“It is never someone makes one mistake, it is a whole process before you come to a certain outcome.
“It’s always about team. The team is above everything else,” Ten Hag continued.
“There are many different characters and you have to manage them. The team is always above anything else.”
