Ten Hag keen to ‘develop young players’ at Man United

Erik ten Hag wants to develop young players at Manchester United after impressive cameos from the club’s emerging talent this season.

Hannibal Mejbri has impressed in recent wins over Burnley and Crystal Palace and scored his first Premier League goal against Brighton earlier this month.

The 20-year-old Tunisia international is one of several starlets to be given an opportunity in the side this season, alongside Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund and Facundo Pellistri.

Ten Hag also handed a debut to 19-year-old Daniel Gore during the midweek win over Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup and the Dutchman said he is keen to hand opportunities to the club’s best prospects.

“You’ve seen already, when you develop players you see the progress and that can help you in tough situations,” Ten Hag said at his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s Premier League fixture with Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

“It’s good for the club to develop such players and to get them into professional football and professional top football.

“I like to develop young players but the mentality has to be right and every time you have to prove it and every occasion in training and show it in the games.”
