Arsenal and Tottenham want to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford in January, though the north London duo are unwilling to meet the forward’s current asking price.
Toney has been linked with a number of English football’s top clubs after impressing since Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League, with the forward having scored 32 goals in 66 top-flight appearances for the Bees.
The 27-year-old’s performances saw Toney make his England debut in March and both Arsenal and Spurs are understood to be interested in a deal. However, the north London rivals are not prepared to meet Brentford’s current asking price which is said to be €70m (£61m), according to Fichajes.
Toney is yet to feature in the Premier League this season after being handed an eight-month ban from football for breaching the FA’s gambling rules. His suspension will end in January, when the transfer window for Premier League clubs opens.
Toney – who scored 20 Premier League goals last season – will hope to find his form across the second half of the campaign as he bids to make the England squad for next summer’s European Championship.
He could, however, do so in the colours of a new club, having expressed a desire to leave Brentford for a team competing at the top end of the division. Toney will have just 18 months remaining on his contract with the Bees in January.
