Real Madrid plot new Mbappe transfer bid – but Liverpool ‘have a chance’

Real Madrid are reportedly lining up a fresh transfer bid for Kylian Mbappe in January, but the Paris Saint-Germain forward could still end up at Liverpool.

The Spanish giants have been long-time admirers of the 2018 World Cup winner, who spurned their advances in 2022 to remain in the French capital and sign a contract extension.

Mbappe‘s contract expires in 2024, meaning he will be able to negotiate a free transfer with foreign clubs in January ahead of a potential summer move.

Real, who unsurprisingly want to avoid a repeat of last year’s saga, have set a mid-January deadline for the Frenchman to decide whether or not to move to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, according to The Athletic.

The report adds that PSG are confident Mbappe will extend his contract with the Ligue 1 outfit, as they do not believe Real can match the financial package they can offer the 25-year-old.

According to Marca, Real Madrid will offer Mbappe £23m per year and a monstrous signing-on bonus of £110m.

Liverpool have long been linked with Mbappe, although are considered a distant second to Real in the race for his signature. The Reds, though, are not out of the running just yet.

Speaking to talkSPORT, L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi revealed: “Liverpool wanted him when he was playing for Monaco. [Liverpool manager Jurgen] Klopp went to see him and they were negotiating while they were on the plane.

“The relationship between him, Liverpool, and Klopp is there. I think they have a chance.”

However, the Daily Mail reported in early December that Liverpool were not interested in making a move for Mbappe next summer.
