Liverpool set a new Premier League record as the Reds beat Newcastle 4-2 to move three points clear at the top of the table.
The latest instalment of a classic Premier League rivalry proved to be another enthralling encounter, as the two teams shared six second-half goals in an open contest at Anfield.
Liverpool were dominant for much of the game against an injury-hit Newcastle side, and posted a record-breaking Expected Goals figure (xG) of 7.27 against the Magpies.
That statistic is the highest recorded from a Premier League side since the data was first collected more than a decade ago, as Jurgen Klopp’s side carved out chance after chance.

Mohamed Salah missed one and scored one from the penalty spot for the Reds, who fired 34 total shots, with 25 of those coming from inside the box, and 15 finding the target. Liverpool also hit the woodwork through Trent Alexander-Arnold, and created nine ‘big chances’.
