Paris Saint-Germain are ready to reignite their interest in signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.
Rashford was dropped from the squad to face Newport County in the FA Cup at the weekend, after the forward reported ill for training on Friday after allegedly partying in Belfast the previous night.
The Red Devils released a statement on Monday, insisting the matter had been dealt with: “Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions. This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed.”
The incident follows another earlier in the campaign, when Rashford was criticised for going to a nightclub in Manchester, immediately after the club’s heavy derby defeat to Manchester City. Ten Hag called those actions ‘unacceptable’.
iNews are reporting that PSG are now plotting a move to sign Rashford. The French champions are long-term admirers of Rashford and have previously been vocal in their interest, before the forward signed a new deal at Old Trafford in 2023.
“He’s another player that is really amazing,” PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said in September 2022.
“And for free? To have Rashford for free, every club would run after him, definitely.
”We’re not hiding it, we spoke before and [there was] interest, but the moment was not a good moment for both sides. Maybe, summer, why not?”
PSG could view Rashford as a direct replacement for Kylian Mbappe, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season. The France captain is yet to make a decision on his future, amid interest from Real Madrid.
Rashford scored 30 goals in all competitions to win Manchester United’s Player of the Season award last term, but the 26-year-old has failed to replicate that form during a difficult season in 2023/24. He has scored just four goals in 20 Premier League appearances this season.
