Arsenal have 10-player shortlist in striker search

Arsenal have a shortlist of 10 players in the club’s search to sign a centre-forward in the summer transfer window.

Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu have made the signing of a striker the priority this summer with the Gunners keen to land a prolific presence to lead the line.

Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres has been named as Arsenal’s leading target after a stunning season in Portugal, with the Swedish striker having scored 36 goals and laid on 14 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.

Gyokeres is not the only name under consideration, however, and the Mirror have reported that Arsenal have a long list of options.

Alexander Isak, of Newcastle, is also an option as the Magpies consider the sale of a leading asset to remain compliant with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, while Brentford’s Ivan Toney is another Premier League-based player being tracked.

Victor Osimhen continues to be linked with a Premier League move and is expected to leave Napoli at the end of the campaign, though would cost a club-record fee with the Nigerian’s release clause in the region of £113m.

A trio of Bundesliga names also feature, including RB Leipzig pair Benjamin Sesko and Lois Openda, and Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface. It was revealed this week that the latter has received a ‘concrete proposal’ from an unnamed Premier League club.

Elsewhere, Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez – who has also been linked with Tottenham and Chelsea – Porto’s Evanilson and Ajax youngster Brian Brobbey are alternatives being discussed internally.

Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have struggled for favour and fitness this season and have combined for just nine goals in the Premier League, with a centre-forward viewed as the next step in the development of Arteta’s improving side.

Kai Havertz has deputised in a false nine role with success in recent weeks and should lead the line when the Gunners take on title rivals Manchester City at the Etihad this weekend.
