De Zerbi comments on Brighton future amid Liverpool and Barcelona links

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi says he has not made a decision on his future amid reports linking him with Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

The Italian has emerged as one of the leading candidates to take over at either club, who are on the hunt for new managers as Jurgen Klopp, Xavi and Thomas Tuchel prepare to step away at the end of the season.

De Zerbi has two years left on his contract with Brighton, but speculation over his future has run rampant, especially after Xabi Alonso this week revealed he will be staying at Bayer Leverkusen next season.

The 44-year-old will seek talks with the club’s hierarchy before making a decision on his future, leaving the door open for a summer exit.

“I want to speak with my club,” De Zerbi said on Saturday. “I have a contract which is not a problem. The problem is to find the same plan for the future.

“I have not decided my future, and I want to speak with Tony (Bloom, Brighton chairman) to understand his plan and then we will take a decision together without problems.

“My relationship with my players and the fans can’t change depending on the future. What we have done is history and no one can forget it.”
