Liverpool suffer blow ahead of Merseyside Derby

Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota is set to sit out the midweek encounter with Everton after sustaining an injury at the weekend.

The rival clubs face off on Wednesday for the final Merseyside Derby of the Jurgen Klopp era, as the German prepares to leave Anfield at the end of the season.

Jota will not feature in the game and he could be out for up to two weeks after he was forced off with an injury immediately after scoring against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Klopp hopes he will have fresh legs for the Everton , though, after resting many of his first-team players at the weekend.

“We had to do it and we will see what we can do now for this game,” the Liverpool boss said in his pre-match press conference.

“There is nothing definite yet as we will train this afternoon and then we will make decisions. We will line players up and hopefully have fresh legs on the pitch.”

Liverpool have had to deal with multiple injury worries throughout the season, but have managed to put them aside to challenge for the Premier League title.

“It was super important to qualify for Champions League,” said Klopp. “That was clear to go for that. It looks good in that department but it is not 100 percent set yet.

“We are where we are and want to win all the games. You have to deal with all the little setbacks. I wouldn’t say it was straight forward but until two weeks ago it was better than people would have thought.

“It’s all about how you can get the right feeling back again. And I am really happy with the response.

“Let’s make the best of it. If we win the league then I will be ecstatic. And as long as there’s that chance we will give it a good try.”
