Liverpool pushing to wrap up Slot agreement today

Liverpool will push ahead to reach an agreement with Feyenoord for head coach Arne Slot in the next few hours as the club look to wrap up a deal.

Slot has been identified as Liverpool’s leading target to replace Jurgen Klopp as manager as the latter prepares to step down at the end of the campaign.

Talks were held with Slot earlier this week and ended positively, with the Reds having made the 45-year-old their first choice candidate, after previous links to Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim.

The Dutch coach led Feyenoord to a first league title in six years last season, in addition to reaching the Europa Conference League final with the Rotterdam outfit in 2021/22, and won the KNVB Cup after beating NEC at the weekend.

He has previously been linked with the Premier League with Leeds, Chelsea and Tottenham all considering Slot in recent campaigns, but feels now is the time to leave the Eredivisie for England.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that talks between Liverpool and Feyenoord over a compensation package will continue on Thursday, with the Reds keen to reach an agreement as swiftly as possible.

An agreement has already been reached with Slot to take over at Anfield, while Feyenoord have identified FC Twente manager Joseph Oosting as one of their targets to replace Slot. Coincidentally, Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has also been linked with the role at De Kuip.
