Napoli identify Osimhen replacements ahead of inevitable exit

Napoli have identified their potential replacements for Victor Osimhen with the forward set to leave the club amid interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

Napoli expect Osimhen’s €130m (£11m) release clause to be triggered at the end of the season and the Nigeria international is keen on a new challenge after four prolific campaigns with the club.

The 25-year-old has scored 75 goals in 130 games and is high on PSG’s list of potential replacements for Kylian Mbappe, who will sign for Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer. Arsenal and Chelsea have also been linked, and Calciomercato claim Napoli have already chosen their preferred replacement.

Top of the wish list is Lille striker Jonathan David. Having signed Osimhen from the French side, there is interest in a player who has stepped impressively into the Nigerian’s shoes previously.

David has scored 82 goals in 182 appearances since replacing Osimhen at Lille and will have just 12 months remaining on his contact with the French side in the summer.

The Canada international also has admirers from the Premier League and Napoli have drawn up alternatives.

Among them are Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez and Girona forward Artem Dovbyk, though Napoli are cautious about being dragged into bidding wars for the duo, who will not be short of interest this summer after prolific seasons for their respective clubs.
