PSG ‘cool interest’ in signing Marcus Rashford

Paris Saint-Germain have cooled their interest in signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United this summer.

Rashford has been named as a potential option to replace Kylian Mbappe at the Ligue 1 champions with the latter set to depart on a free transfer at the end of the campaign.

PSG are long-term admirers of Rashford and previously expressed interest in signing the England forward before his commitment to a new deal at Old Trafford last season.

The 26-year-old has endured a challenging campaign at Manchester United and has clashed with manager Erik ten Hag on occasion, with Rashford dropped for an FA Cup tie at Newport in January as part of disciplinary action against the forward.

He has scored just eight goals in all competitions this season, a drop-off from the career-best total of 30 he managed in 2022/23, and has been linked with an exit.

However, iNews are reporting that PSG’s interest in Rashford has cooled, despite him featuring on a shortlist of ‘three or four’ options for the summer.

PSG’s focus is on a deal to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who has a release clause of around €130m (£111m) in his contract at the Italian side. The French side are understood to have a ‘war-chest’ of around £200m to spend in the summer and the bulk of that will be put towards the pursuit of Osimhen.

United are open to the sale of Rashford should a significant offer arrive, and will consider offers for almost their entire first-team squad in the summer. Only emerging names Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo are deemed not for sale, as new minority owners Ineos prepare a major squad overhaul.

However, ESPN claim that the Red Devils do not expect any side to meet their £70m valuation of Rashford, while the player’s wages of around £325,000-a-week could prove problematic for interested clubs.
