Arsenal expect midfielder to snub Serie A move

Arsenal expect Jorginho to turn down a return to Serie A and sign a new contract in North London.

Jorginho’s current deal expires at the end of the season and the Gunners have offered the 32-year-old fresh terms for an extension.

The Italy international has been an astute addition since arriving from Chelsea for a fee of £12m in January 2023, offering an experienced option at the base of the midfield.

Jorginho’s composure in possession has been well appreciated under Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are keen to tie the midfielder down to a new contract.

Interest in the Italian is high from Serie A, however, with Juventus, Lazio and former club Napoli all open to signing him as a free agent, though the Evening Standard are reporting that Arsenal are confident he will reject the lure of a return to the division in favour of remaining at the Emirates.

Arsenal are expected to move on a wealth of midfield options in the summer with Albert Sambi Lokonga, Emile Smith Rowe and Mohamed Elneny set to leave. A decision will also be made on Thomas Partey, who will have 12 months to run on his contract.

Elsewhere, the Gunners are open to offers for Gabriel Jesus, who has endured an underwhelming second season with the club.
