Spurs transfer targets named as Postecoglou plans overhaul

Tottenham Hotspur want to sign a centre-forward, centre-back and central midfielder in the summer as Ange Postecoglou continues his rebuild of the North London side.

Spurs have shown encouraging signs during the Australian’s debut campaign in charge, emerging as contenders for a top-four finish and Champions League qualification, despite the sale of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last summer.

Kane’s exit part-funded a club-record investment of around £230m on new signings this season and the Spurs board are prepared to free funds for the next stage of Postecoglou’s rebuild. The club’s focus will be on three key positions and The Telegraph have named a trio of targets who feature high on their list of priorities.

Long-term interest in Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher will be formalised with an approach in the summer, as Spurs look to capitalise on the Blues’ need to balance the books.

Gallagher has featured prominently for Chelsea this season, though his high value and status as an academy product make him an obvious sale as Chelsea look to remain compliant with financial rules.

The 24-year-old will also enter the final 12 months of his contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of the campaign which could force Chelsea into lowering their initial £50m asking price for the England international.

Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly is also a target for Spurs as he nears the end of his deal on the south coast. The 25-year-old, who can operate at left-back or in central defence, will be available as a free agent and Spurs hope to beat Newcastle to his signature.

The potential arrivals of Gallagher and Kelly would also increase the club’s homegrown quota, with several of the club’s current options facing uncertain futures.

The final area of focus will be centre-forward. Son Heung-min has had another impressive campaign to score 16 league goals, though will turn 32 in the summer and has a preference for the left-flank. Richarlison, meanwhile, has improved from a disappointing debut season but has failed to score more than 13 goals in any of his seven Premier League seasons.

Santiago Gimenez is a player of interest to Spurs after a prolific period at Feyenoord. The Mexico international has scored 47 goals in 85 appearances since arriving from Cruz Azul, and at 23 could be the long-term successor to Kane in north London.

However, interest in Gimenez is high with Arsenal, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Juventus having all checked in on his progress at De Kuip.
