Chelsea make ‘formal bid’ for Brighton goalkeeper

Chelsea have made a formal bid to sign Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, as the club look to provide competition and cover for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Chelsea are in search of a new goalkeeper after allowing Edouard Mendy to leave for Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli and have made an official offer to Brighton for Sanchez.

The two-cap Spain international lost his place as the Seagulls number one last season and Brighton have since added to their goalkeeping options with the arrival of Bart Verbruggen from Anderlecht.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Sanchez has ‘already accepted’ Chelsea as his destination and Brighton are keen to offload the 25-year-old this summer.

Chelsea also remain in talks with Brighton over a deal to sign Moises Caicedo. The west Londoners have seen two offers turned down this summer, with the latest believed to be worth around £80m.

Brighton are holding out for a fee close to £100m for the Ecuador international, who excelled last season as Roberto De Zerbi’s side secured Europa League qualification.

Brighton are using Declan Rice’s £105m move from West Ham to Arsenal as a benchmark in their valuation of the 21-year-old.
