Klopp refuses to rule out more signings after Caicedo agreement

Jurgen Klopp has refused to rule out more signings for Liverpool after confirming the club have reached a British transfer record agreement with Brighton for midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Liverpool are understood to have agreed a fee of £110m with the Seagulls for the 21-year-old, who is reportedly set to undergo a medical with the Reds on Friday ahead of his record-breaking move to Anfield.

Liverpool had targeted a deal for Caicedo as the club search for a defensive midfielder and have agreed to eclipse the Premier League transfer record, set by Enzo Fernandez’s move to Chelsea in January.

Klopp has confirmed that a fee has been agreed for Caicedo and admits the move for the Ecuadorian came after the unexpected sales of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to the Saudi Pro League.

“I can confirm the [Moises Caicedo] deal with the club is agreed, whatever that means in the end. Of course, we want the player and not just the agreement,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League opener at Chelsea.

“We don’t have endless resource. We didn’t expect a couple of things to happen over the summer but when that happened we gave it a go.

“Let’s see what happens and we go from there.”

Liverpool’s deal for Caicedo will take the club’s spending past £200m for the summer window, though Klopp has refused to rule out the prospect of more additions. The Reds have been linked with signing a left-sided centre-back before the transfer deadline.

On other arrivals, he added: “Let’s go step by step and see what happens. We have plenty of time to go.”
