Klopp says ‘reloaded’ Liverpool ‘mean business’ this season

Jurgen Klopp believes his new-look Liverpool squad ‘mean business’ this season as the club prepare to begin their Premier League campaign.

Liverpool travel to face Chelsea in their Premier League opener on Sunday as the Reds look to bounce back from a disappointing campaign last term.

Liverpool missed out on Champions League qualification last season, but have since rebuilt with a number of long-serving players leaving the club and the additions of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister in midfield.

Klopp’s side have also agreed a £110m Premier League record fee to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo and the German admits the club’s fresh options are reason for excitement.

“We have a new start with this Liverpool FC reloaded – it’s an exciting thing,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“People wanted changes because we’d been together for a long time. Did it happen at the right moment? That’s difficult to answer. But now it happened and that’s good.

“We have a new leadership group and if you look at the players not in that group then they also offer a lot, they are exceptional. Cody [Gakpo] is great, Dom [Szoboszlai] is 23 and the captain of Hungary, Macca [Alexis Mac Allister] is also outstanding.

“We all share responsibility, let’s take that responsibility and see where we go. Don’t try to be like someone just be the best version of yourself.”

Klopp says he has been pleased with the club’s pre-season preparations and believes his side ‘mean business’ as Liverpool look to return to the Champions League.

“I’ve seen a lot of things [from the players] that make me think ‘we mean business’.

“They want to show up. We are looking forward to the Europa League draw but we want to play in the Champions League. We want to compete.

“We have targets and the good feelings I have are based on what I saw during in pre-season.”
