Manchester United and Liverpool have both contacted Bayern Munich over a potential transfer for Ryan Gravenberch.
Both Premier League clubs are looking to sign a new midfielder following the opening weekend of the season. Their performances against Wolves and Chelsea respectively exposed the need for reinforcements in the centre of the pitch.
This week saw Man United and Liverpool call Bayern “again” to find out about Gravenberch’s availability, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. However, it is also reported that the German club have “no intention to sell” the player.
The 21-year-old has become unsettled in Munich just a year after joining from Ajax for a reported transfer fee of €18 million, with €5m in add-ons.
Having made just three starts in the Bundesliga last season, Gravenberch stated in the summer that he wants to “play more… preferably at Bayern. Otherwise at a club where I will 100 percent play.”
Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel is not looking to sell Gravenberch or Leon Goretzka, who has also been linked with a move away from the German champions.
“They both have contracts with us,” the former Chelsea manager said on the situation in July. “Ryan is in the challenger role. He has to get the best out of this role”.
Liverpool are in the market for a defensive midfielder after selling Fabinho to Al-Ittihad and Jordan Henderson to Al-Ettifaq, who are managed by Steven Gerrard.
The Reds missed out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, both of whom joined Chelsea, in the past week, but have managed to sign Wataru Endo from Stuttgart in a transfer worth just over £15m (€18m).
The 30-year-old captain of the Japan national team will bring much-needed depth to Liverpool’s midfield.
Meanwhile, Man Utd are also interested in signing Everton midfielder Amadou Onana to bolster Erik ten Hag’s squad.
