Liverpool have rejected a bid worth an initial £100m plus ‘substantial add-ons’ from Al-Ittihad for Mohamed Salah.
The Saudi Pro League side have firmed up their interest with an offer for the Egypt international, who Liverpool have insisted is not for sale.
Saudi Arabian football has made the signing of Salah a priority for the big-spending domestic league, with the 31-year-old viewed as a marquee import given his following in the Arab world.
The Athletic are reporting that a verbal offer was made for Salah, but was given ‘no consideration’ and has been turned down by Liverpool.
The Reds have no interest in selling Salah before Friday’s 11pm transfer deadline, though the situation could continue into the coming week with the Saudi Pro League window open until September 7.
Salah scored 30 goals in all competitions for Liverpool last season and has been the club’s leading scorer in six straight seasons.
Liverpool view the negotiations as ‘case closed’, though Al-Ittihad are expected to return with an improved offer.
