Klopp ‘happy’ with midfield rebuild at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp says he is happy with his summer transfer business after overseeing a midfield rebuild at Liverpool.

Liverpool brought in four new midfielders during the summer transfer window, following the exits of a number of established names in Klopp’s squad.

Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, James Milner, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Naby Keita all departed to deplete the Reds’ central midfield options, with replacements required during a busy summer at Anfield.

Liverpool brought in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai early in the window, before deals for Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch were secured to add depth to Klopp’s engine room.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Wolves, Klopp said he was pleased with the business conducted.

“I’m happy. I was with the midfield we had over the years. They were super characters, grew fantastically into different roles from younger players,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference.

“It was a big task to replace them but I’m happy with what we’ve got.”

Liverpool also saw off late interest from the Saudi Pro League for Mohamed Salah and Klopp quick to shut down questions on the winger’s long-term future.

“A week after the transfer window, you ask about January? Are you kidding?

“You can’t wait! I’m not worried, we will see what happens.”
