Spurs have joined the race to sign Liverpool and Manchester United target Jean-Clair Todibo.
Ange Postecoglou is targeting a central defender in the January transfer window with Spurs’ centre-back options stretched, after Micky van de Ven was ruled out until the new year with a hamstring injury.
Todibo has been on the radar of Liverpool and Manchester United after a run of commanding performances at French side Nice. The ex-Barcelona youngster has developed into one of Ligue 1’s leading centre-backs at Nice and has impressed with his progressive ball use from the backline.
The 23-year-old ranks fourth for touches, fifth for progressive carrying distance and ninth for progressive passing distance in France’s top division this season.
According to the Evening Standard, Todibo is on Spurs’ shortlist of centre-back options alongside a number of Premier League names. Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Bournemouth centre-back Lloyd Kelly are also under consideration in north London.
Todibo, who made his France debut in September, is valued at around £39m at Nice. He will want assurances over his role in the side before agreeing to a move mid-season, as he looks to cement his place in the French squad for next summer’s European Championship.
